(Reason for selling - want bigger boat with more accommodation for longer cruising trips)

First launched June 2003, Quiet Storm was purchased new by us from Southern Motorboats. Since then it has been kept in Poole where it has been mainly used as a day boat by my family and I.

Having said that Quiet Storm has covered most of the coast from Southampton (the Hamble) to Dartmouth and ventured as far as the Channel Islands twice in 2005.

We love this boat for it’s versatility, you can overnight on it plus its great for water sports including skiing and wake boarding, as well as the usual array of inflatables.

It’s also an incredibly social boat with a great layout for dining or sunbathing, as the table converts to a huge sunbed.

The extended bathing platform, with swim ladder and hot and cold swimming shower means that any wet activities can be comfortably carried out there whilst the main cockpit area can remain dry.

Hot water runs off both the engine and shorepower which means that you do not need electric hook up to have a hot shower or wash the pots!

We have had many extras to make the boat more enjoyable, practical or safe - I have listed these more extensively on additional pages with photographs so that if you are interested you can get a better idea of what this incredible little boat has to offer.

N.B. Quiet Storm has a single KAD 43 diesel engine

The Leader 805 has an ‘A’ symmetric deck which means that there is safe, easy access to the fore deck - essential when trying to moor up or anchor in open water.

The anchor has never let us down, I’m not sure if this is due to the 14kg weight of the thing or the 20m of chain (which I have marked every 10ft).

There is a remote control which enables you to operate it from the anchor locker but we have added a helm control making it easier to maintain control of the boat when using the anchor.

We have had added a stainless steel cleat to the midships which enables you to use a spring line when mooring up in the marina.

The camper covers are the usual pain to put up and take down but as you can see from the picture above, they can be used as protection from the wind (or weather) when cruising.

In addition to camper covers and the tonnea, we have had a full winter cover made which protects the boat from the weather, keeping it clean when stored ashore. (Sorry no picture of this!).

Bathing Platform & Davits

The tender when on the stainless steel ‘telescopic davits’ provides access to easily get on and off the boat, while the ‘snap davits’ provide the stability required when putting an outboard on in open water.

The hot & cold swimming shower located on the extended bathing platform is great for showering the kids down after a day on the beach or to warm yourself up after a snorkel.

Situated in the centre of the extended bathing platform is the teak drain platform which lifts up on one side to reveal the swim ladder. The design of the teak drain platform allows it to be repositioned when it is in use.

The table drops down on to a shorter pole to convert into a huge sun bathing area.

The very social layout is the thing that drew me to the boat originally. The only draw back is that when accessing the engine compartment you need to remove the table and seat covers.

The beam of almost 10ft provides a real feeling of space and the medium to deep V hull provides great handling. We have been in some big seas in this little boat and felt very safe.

The skippers seat has a clever designed bolster seat which flips up to seat you in a higher position giving a better view. The skippers mates seat lifts up to give access to a wet bar.

Below Decks

Below decks there is enough room for me to stand in the galley, toilet and aft cabin - which at six foot tall, I have not been able to find on many 25ft boats.

The accommodation below is great for a couple or maybe with two smaller children of the same sex but this is the driving our decision to change. We would like to go cruising for longer than a few days but with two children (Josh 13 and Libby 10) this proves a little cramped.

The galley is equipped with a two burner gas hob, sink, 240v Microwave (used twice as we rarely have shorepower) and 12v electric fridge located below the hob. There is a storage cupboard below the sink. See photo 2 below to see how this is layed out - the door between the steps and the galley leads to the aft cabin (photo 2a). This has a double berth and small wardrobe.

To the left of the stairs is the door to the bathroom and main cabin wardrobe, complete with Sony radio cassette and x10 CD changer built in.(See photo 1). The stereo also has two speakers in the cockpit.

The carpets are ‘press stud fixed’ throughout over a textured finish GRP. There is also a manual fire extinguisher fixed within the cabin area.

The bathroom is 1a 2a equipped with sea toilet & storage behind, sink & storage cupboard below and shower.

The shower tray has an electric bilge to pump out the excess water.

The aft cabin is a clever use of space as it has a full height standing area with a small seat as you enter.

The double berth actually runs across the width and under the helm.

Engine and Storage

The Leader 805 has plenty of storage space in and around the engine compartment. The batteries are located on the starboard side behind the helm - the battery isolation switch is easily accessed via a cubby under the helm.

The water heater, converted to work off both shore power and the engine, is located on the port side.

The KAD 43 gives great performance, economy and has a full Volvo service history from Poole Marine Services.

There is also a fixed automatic fire extinguisher central to the engine compartment. The bilge pump is operated manually via a switch at the helm.
