Website Is Important Branch Of Anniversary Project

A website designed to help the RSA to plant 250,000 trees during its 250th anniversary year on sites nationwide has been created by Quiet Storm

Released: Wednesday, 28th April 2004

From the time of its founding in 1754 until the 1820s the RSA (Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce) encouraged tree planting across the UK. Over 50 million were planted and many of the woods we enjoy today are the result.

So a tree-planting initiative seemed a fitting, beneficial and lasting way to mark the RSA’s anniversary in 2004.

The project is being operated in partnership with the UK’s key tree planting organisations including the National Urban Forestry Unit, The National Forest Company and the Woodland Trust.

The key way in which trees can be bought and the project is managed is via a dedicated website www.rsatrees.org that has been designed, created and is hosted by Quiet Storm.

The site enables visitors to buy a tree using a credit or debit card, select the site where they want the tree or trees to be planted, ask questions about trees by email, send an e-card to tell someone else about the scheme and find out all about trees and their value to society.

There is also a tree-o-meter on the site which shows how many trees have already been bought. This is updated in real time.

Behind the scenes of the site RSA staff members are able to generate reports to make administration of the project quick and efficient and to ensure the money is directed to the appropriate partner.

Anita Beardsley of the RSA said: “We are very pleased with how the site looks and how it operates, both for visitors and our own administrative purposes.

“Within days of the site being launched dozens of trees were sold, and that, of course, is what we were looking to achieve.”

In addition to the website Quiet Storm has also designed a full colour DL leaflet and a point of sale holder to promote the plant-a-tree project.
